Bartlett Cocke General Contractors recognized by 2009 ABC Central Texas Chapter Excellence in Construction Merit Award

Bartlett Cocke General Contractors received the 2009 Merit Award by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Central Texas Chapter for Excellence in Construction. The award was received for our construction of Bastrop Independent School District’s Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts. The center is a striking new theater building designed around functionality and sustainability.

The 48,562 square foot, 1,500 seat Performing Arts Center was constructed under the Construction Manager-at-Risk delivery method. This steel framed structure is composed of brick, stone and stucco veneer on CMU and metal studs. The lobby is a wood beam and decking structure enclosed with a large glass curtain wall. The site is located next to active railroad tracks, which made the acoustical construction a critical part of the project. Special noise reduction/sound quality improvement features were added; including insulated multiple layer sheetrock, large duct work to reduce airflow noise and acoustical clouds and shells.

ABC's Awards of Excellence Program recognizes outstanding construction projects across the nation. Projects with members performing as general contractors can be entered in 12 categories. The Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts project won the Merit Award in the Institutional – $10 to $25 million category.
