Peterson receives academic recognition

Dr. Estrada Thomas, principal of Bastrop High School, announced today that Andrew Peterson is among some 3,100 Outstanding Participants in the National Achievement Scholarship Program being referred to U. S. colleges and universities. He scored in the top 3 percent of more than 160,000 Black Americans who requested consideration in the 2010 National Achievement Program when they took the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. A roster of those students’ names, high schools, and tentative college major choices is being sent to about 1,500 colleges and universities.

           

The National Achievement Scholarship Program was initiated in 1964 specifically to honor academically promising Black American high school students. The annual scholarship competition is conduced that National Merit Scholarship Corporation which also conducts the National Merit Scholarship Program which is open to all US high school students. 

           

Andrew currently serves as the treasurer of the BHS student council and is the lead defense attorney for Bastrop County Teen Court. He plans to major in math and is considering a number of colleges at this time.
