Watson named Principal for Bastrop Middle School

Bastrop Middle School will change leadership during the first part of November. Interim Principal James Richardson will turn the lead over to Teri Watson. Watson will assume the role of principal on November 2.

Teri Watson attended junior high and high school in Bastrop, Texas.  She graduated as one of the top ten students from Bastrop High School in the class of 1977.  During high school, she participated in Girls State, Student Council, Cheerleading, Honor Society, Theatre and Dance.  She earned a scholarship and attended Southwest Texas State University where she majored in Theatre and English and appeared in a number of plays and musicals on campus.

Teri returned to Bastrop to marry Bastrop resident Bobby Watson; she and Bobby have been married for 32 years.  In 1980, the couple opened a dance studio in Bastrop which Teri operated for five years.  She began teaching English and coaching cheerleaders at Bastrop High School in 1985.

While a part of the Bastrop community, Teri choreographed and appeared in several summer musicals at the Bastrop Opera House.  She worked closely with Jerry Fay Wilhelm, her mentor, to help develop the theatre program in both the Bastrop community and the schools.

Teri earned her Masters of Education from the University of Texas at Austin, and then later began a Ph.D. in Special Education Administration at UT.

Teri’s career then took her to Pflugerville ISD where she served as an English and Theatre teacher, English department chairperson, and later as an assistant principal at Dessau Middle School, and to Austin ISD where she was the Academic Dean for Johnston Liberal Arts Academy.  Teri was also employed by Region XIII Educational Service Center as Curriculum Coordinator.  In 2003, Teri became principal of Florence High School.  She then continued her work in the area of curriculum, serving as the Curriculum and Instruction Director for Georgetown ISD.  She is returning to Bastrop after serving as the Director of Curriculum for College Station ISD.

Teri is anxious to return to Bastrop where her husband’s family still resides.  Teri has two sons, Ryan and Drew.
