BHS football video needs your vote

On Friday nights across the land, lights come on, whistles are blown, footballs are snapped and heroes are made. Nothing generates excitement quite like a high school football game. This month, State Farm is kicking off Friday Night Feats, a national video contest on YouTube, to find bold moves and best plays from the 2009 high school football season.

The Bastrop High School varsity football team has submitted a video for this contest and they need your help. First, you will need to create a free YouTube account at www.youtube.com. Then search for ‘Bastrop Monroe Shipley’. Watch the video and rate it 5 stars. To vote, click directly on the fifth star.

Definition of a Friday Night Feat

A Friday Night Feat is a big moment – a bold, athletic and impactful play displaying teamwork and athleticism on the high school football field. It can be a one-handed grab in the end zone, an interception, bone-crushing block or any valiant effort on the gridiron.

Video submission period

Videos will be accepted during two submission periods – the first half and second half of the contest. The first half is Sept. 14 until Oct. 17 and the second is Oct. 18 until Nov. 22.

Voting

Viewers determine the 26 semi-finalists from each half, 52 total, by voting with YouTube star ratings on the Friday Night Feats channel www.YouTube.com/FridayNightFeats. A panel of qualified judges will narrow the semi-finalists down to the top 10 videos. Viewers have the final say and chose the first and second place and the grand prize winner by voting for their favorite on YouTube Dec. 3 until Dec.10.

Judging criteria

Each video is judged on the "wow" factor, athleticism, impact of the play, and creativity of the video, which will include a title and brief description of the play.

Prizes

Cash prizes are $15,000 for the grand prize, $10,000 for first place and $5,000 for second place. Each finalist nominee (four from each zone) wins $2,500. All prize money will be awarded to respective schools.

Winner Announcement

The State Farm Friday Night Feats contest winner will be announced on Dec. 14.
