Bastrop ISD was one of 47 entities to receive the 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Cycle 6 Year 1 grant from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). BISD is expected to receive approximately $5 million dollars over the next five years.
“Academically, the stakes are getting higher and higher each year with mandated testing and progress measurements. With the 21st Century funding, we will be able to address student needs that may take a little extra time than what can be achieved during the normal school day,” stated Superintendent Roderick Emanuel.
The purpose of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) is to provide extended learning opportunities outside of the regular school day to students in need of academic assistance, particularly students who attend high-need, high-poverty and low-performing schools, by developing highly effective and rigorous programs. The overall program is inclusive of specific core elements based on recommended principles and effective strategies to ensure successful programs that will assist students in meeting academic standards in core subjects (math, reading, science, social studies) in order to graduate from high school, prepared for college and/or the workforce. The Texas 21st CCLC program will strive to improve academics, attendance, behavior, promotion, and graduation rates, which aligns with the overarching goal of TEA that all students will graduate prepared for postsecondary education and/or the workforce.
Bastrop ISD will have learning centers at ten campuses during the 2009-10 school year. These campuses include Bastrop High School, Bastrop Middle School, Cedar Creek Middle School, Bastrop Intermediate School, Cedar Creek Intermediate School, Bluebonnet Elementary, Cedar Creek Elementary, Lost Pines Elementary, Mina Elementary and Red Rock Elementary. Emile Elementary will feed into Mina’s program.
