René Barrientos worked for Southwestern Bell for 30 years before retiring in 2005. He was a manager at the SBC office in Bastrop for four and a half years before being promoted to Area Manager in Austin, where he finished his career.

Mr. Barrientos and his wife, Nancy, have lived in Bastrop for 26 years. They have two children, Brittany, a 2002 BHS graduate and 2005 Texas Tech University graduate, and Nicholas, a 2005 graduate of Genesis High School.

Mr. Barrientos has been actively involved with children in the Bastrop community for many years. He was a coach for the Bastrop Youth Football Organization (BYFO), served as Vice-President for BYFO and was President of the Bastrop Little League.

Mr. Barrientos is an avid hunter and fisherman. He has enjoyed hunting in Texas, Mexico and New Zealand. Mr. Barrientos is co-owner of InStone Texas in Bastrop.
