Mission Statement and Philosophy

Mission Statement

To ensure the academic success of all students by fostering a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.

Philosophy

The Bastrop Independent School District subscribes to the philosophy that all students can learn at levels substantially higher than now exist. Commitment to this philosophy is driven by a focus on high academic standards with the expectation that every graduate will actualize his/her potential, possess the knowledge and skills necessary to take advantage of post-secondary educational opportunities, pursue meaningful careers and participate successfully in a democratic society. 

BISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES GOALS

  • The Bastrop ISD will achieve academic excellence.
  • The Bastrop ISD will provide support and build capacity to ensure accountability through the following:
         a.  by providing resources and the expectation that fiscal responsibility will be   
              exercised,
         b.  by setting expectations of district-wide accountability for the following:
              i.  instructional staff
              ii.  administrative staff
              iii.  student services staff (i.e. counselors, nurses, librarians)
              iv.  board members
              v.  students
  • The Bastrop ISD will provide a total school environment that is well-disciplined, safe and health conscious and where students feel emotionally secure.
  • The Bastrop ISD will practice consistent enforcement of district policies and procedures at each school site.
  • The Bastrop ISD will review and update the current long-range plan for facilities, particularly in studying the needs at the high school level.

SUPERINTENDENT’S CHARGE

  • Promote student success in academic excellence and challenge district and campus leadership to increase student performance results for promotion, graduation, and post-secondary opportunities. 
              1.  
    Implement effective instructional programs and staff development
                   designed for at-risk learners that will result in higher academic 
                   achievement.
              2.  Promote programs and activities that will increase college enrollment    
                   opportunities.
              3.  Measure longitudinal and year-to-year growth of student performance by 
                   TAKS and NCLB standards for all students and each student group.

  • Take this district from Good to Great by moving from a culture of compliance to an environment of commitment.
              1.  Using evaluation tools, employees will be held accountable to exceed  
                   proficient or above standard ratings.

              2.  Train district leadership in effective documentation strategies for dealing    
                   with ineffective and/or unacceptable behaviors of staff.

  • Direct district, campus and departmental leadership to effectively implement discipline, safety, and wellness processes.
              1.  
      Continue implementation of multi-emergency hazard plan and monitor 
                    safety procedures and practices.
              2.  Support and promote the districts’ wellness policy and collaborative 
                   partnership between child nutrition, physical education, and health 
                   instruction.
             
    3.  Continue to train staff in the implementation of the Capturing Kids Hearts 
                   Program of discipline management and building nurturing relationships 
                   with students and staff.

  • All district leaders will be expected to communicate and hold staff and students responsible for following district policies and procedures.
              1.  
    Work with leadership team to support the continued development and 
                   implementation of formal, written procedures for each campus.
              2.  
    Monitor the consistent enforcement of district policies and campus 
                   procedures.

  • The Superintendent will make recommendations regarding district and high school facilities.
              1.  
    The Superintendent shall appoint an advisory panel of community 
                   members, district staff, and consultants to review facility needs.
             
    2.  The Superintendent will explore possible site selection and land use 
                   development in support of future facilities.
