Update on Design and Construction Projects
Sean Connor & Denise Shaw from Pfluger Associates updated the Board on the design of the performing arts center. They reviewed exterior and interior materials and informed the board that colors for the curtains and seat covers had not yet been decided.
Committee Chair Staci Gideon thanked the Board for seeking community input on the design of the performing arts center and added that she was honored to serve as the committee chair. She stated that input from the committee has been invaluable. Mrs. Gideon introduced members of the Performing Arts Center committee, which included BISD faculty and staff members, as well as members of the community.
Mrs. Gideon, who has served as a fine arts teacher in BISD since 1990, applauded the stakeholders and the community for their support of the facility. She thanked the Board for naming the facility after Mrs. Jerry Fay Wilhelm, the districts’ first drama teacher and biggest cheerleader when it came to the fine arts. Mrs. Gideon stated that she felt that the design that the committee and the Board have come up with will make the community proud and will level the playing field for students to compete. BHS Theater Arts teacher Guillermo DeLeon commented on the great experience working with Pfluger Associates and the performing arts committee. He thanked Mr. Gideon for great guidance. Mr. DeLeon stated that there is a lot of excitement among the students about the facility, and he added that he has heard many alumni and students express their gratitude for naming the facility after Mrs. Wilhelm.
On behalf of the Board, President Allen thanked Mrs. Gideon for her hard work and her energy. He added that the district needed more “Staci Gideon’s”. He concluded by stating that this was a proud moment for Bastrop ISD
Consider Approval of the Design Development Phase for the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts and Authorize the Architect to Begin the Contract Documents Phase
Valerie Bullock moved and Jim Mills seconded to approve the design development phase for the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts and authorize the architect to begin the contract documents phase. President Allen asked the Board for comments or discussion. There being none, President Allen called for a vote. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
