What is the Foundation?
The Bastrop Education Foundation is a local, grassroots, philanthropic organization committed to improving education and educational opportunities throughout our community.
That commitment is expressed in two major ways:
In the last three years alone, the Foundation has awarded 62 grants, totalling more than $200,000. The grants demonstrate a tremendous wellspring of teacher talent, creativity, commitment, and initiative. The scope of the grants varies widely: affecting an individual classroom, an entire grade levels, multiple campuses, or the entire district.
The second initiative centers on recognizing student excellence while concurrently recognizing those educators whose example, support, and guidance provides a glimpse of the lifelong power of the student/teacher relationship. This spring, the Foundation honored 80 Bastrop High School students who have been nominated by their teachers as exemplary, based upon the students’ academic performance, personal attributes and participation in community service and extracurricular activities. From those 80 nominees, the Foundation has named the 30 “Rising Stars” who will be celebrated at this banquet, along with those educators singled out by these students as having made a significant difference in the lives.
Where does the money come from?
Funding for these and other initiatives of the Foundation is entirely dependent on the generous contributions of individuals and businesses that share the Foundation’s vision. Donations are tax exempt and are solicited each fall and supplemented throughout the year by further donations and bequests. Donors are recognized during Foundation events and on this website.
