The Bastrop Education Foundation’s primary thrust is to support imaginative and committed educators in their efforts to enhance student achievement. In the past two years alone, the Foundation has awarded 43 grants, totaling almost $131,000 in support of instructional excellence; most of these grants were focused on innovative teaching strategies and classroom initiatives.
In addition, the Foundation collaborated with The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Smithville to provide staff development opportunities in implementing across-the-curriculum instruction in environmental health and science. These “MIDAS” grants and awards totalled more than $10,000 for the two-year period beginning in summer 2006.
