The Bastrop Education Foundation’s primary thrust is to support imaginative and committed educators in their efforts to enhance student achievement. In the past three years alone, the Foundation has awarded 62 grants, totaling more than $200,000 in support of instructional excellence. The grants demonstrate a tremendous wellspring of teacher talent, creativity, commitment, and initiative. The scope of the grants varies widely: affecting an individual classroom, an entire grade levels, multiple campuses, or the entire district.
In addition, the Foundation collaborated with The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Smithville to provide staff development opportunities in implementing across-the-curriculum instruction in environmental health and science. These “MIDAS” grants and awards totalled more than $10,000 for the two-year period beginning in summer 2006.
